MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – Police say they have arrested a suspect in a deadly hit-and-run crash in southwest Miami-Dade County on May 14.
According to NBC Miami, 26-year-old Peter Garcia of Cutler Bay has been charged in connection with the incident that occurred in the area of Sunset Drive and Southwest 109th Avenue.
Police said 34-year-old Jose Piedra Perez was riding his bicycle home from work at about 1:40 a.m. when he was struck by a Mercedes-Benz CLA driven by Garcia. Garcia then allegedly fled the scene after the crash without stopping to help.
Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. Garcia turned himself in to police on Wednesday and was charged with leaving the scene of a crash causing death.
According to an arrest report, the owner of the Mercedes was riding as a passenger with Garcia when the crash happened and urged him to return to the scene but he refused.
