News: Fatal wreck knocks out power, closes schools in Florida Keys
KEY LARGO, FL – A woman was killed in a car accident that caused major disruptions in the Florida Keys Tuesday morning, according to FL Keys News.
Authorities said the victim was driving in the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 in Key Largo at about 4:20 a.m. when her car went off the road and struck a utility pole. The woman, a Key West resident whose name was not released, sustained fatal injuries. No one else was in the car.
The incident caused extensive delays on U.S. 1, with traffic backed up for miles in the area. The damage caused by the accident also knocked out power to over 1,200 utility customers for several hours.
In addition, the power and traffic problems resulting from the crash prompted the closing of three Monroe County schools for the day.
