News: Driver fleeing from traffic stop involved in fatal collision in Palmetto Bay
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – A driver fleeing from a traffic stop was one of two people killed in a collision in Southwest Miami-Dade County Thursday night, WPLG reports.
Miami-Dade police say an officer tried to pull over a man driving a Lexus SUV on U.S. 1 near Southwest 172nd Street in Palmetto Bay, but the driver fled and took off heading north as police lost sight of him.
The Lexus then crashed into a Chevy Trailblazer that was making a turn from U.S. 1 south onto Southwest 152nd Street at about 6 p.m. The 23-year-old Lexus driver and a 43-year-old woman driving the Trailblazer were both killed in the wreck. Three men who were passengers in the Lexus were taken to Jackson South Medical Center and were being held for questioning.
Lanes on U.S. 1 between Southwest 148th Street and Southwest 155th Street were closed in both directions as detectives investigated at the crash scene.
