News: Driver cited in accident that killed man and woman riding bicycles in Miami
MIAMI, FL – Authorities said the driver involved in an accident that killed two bicyclists in Miami Sunday afternoon has been cited, according to NBC Miami.
The victims, a man and a woman, were riding in the eastbound lanes of the Rickenbacker Causeway near the William Powell Bridge at about 4 p.m. when they were struck by a Jeep SUV. The bicyclists were both pronounced dead at the scene. Their names were not immediately released.
The Jeep driver was detained for questioning following the crash and then was issued several citations, police said. Witnesses said there were multiple people in the Jeep.
A Miami police officer was quoted as saying the incident most likely was the result of carelessness instead of driver impairment, but the investigation is continuing.
The causeway was shut down following the accident, causing major traffic backups.
