News: Deadly West Park crash may have involved street racing, deputies say
PEMBROKE PARK, FL – Authorities in Broward County say a fatal crash in West Park may have been caused by a driver who was street racing.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release regarding the incident that happened July 9 on Pembroke Road at about 9 p.m.
Investigators said 41-year-old Santiago Santana of Hialeah was driving a BMW sedan near the intersection of Southwest 48th Avenue at the same time the driver of a Volvo sedan was making a left turn from Pembroke Road onto Southwest 48th Avenue.
The front of the BMW hit the rear passenger of the side of the Volvo, causing a T-bone collision. The driver of the Volvo was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead after being taken to Hollywood Memorial Regional Hospital. The victim’s name was not released.
A passenger in the BMW was taken to the same hospital in the intensive care unit.
Witnesses told investigators that a white Mercedes may have been street racing with the BMW before the crash. The Mercedes kept going after the accident and was last seen headed east on Pembroke Road.
Anyone with information regarding what happened was asked to contact the Broward Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
