News: Child struck by car that ran red light in Sunny Isles Beach
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FL – Police say a driver went through a red light and struck a child in northeast Miami-Dade County Wednesday evening.
According to WPLG, the victim, an 11-year-old boy, was critically injured and rushed to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
Police said he was hit by a red Mercedes-Benz in the eastbound lanes of Sunny Isles Boulevard near AIA in Sunny Isles Beach. A witness said the child started crossing the street after seeing cars stopped at the red light, and was then hit by the Mercedes.
Police said the driver of the vehicle involved stayed at the scene. It was not yet clear whether any charges would be filed in the case.
Detectives were hoping to find surveillance video that could provide further evidence as to what happened.
