News: Brightline train collides with car in Oakland Park, killing driver
OAKLAND PARK, FL – Authorities said a driver was killed in an accident involving a Brightline train in Oakland Park Tuesday afternoon.
According to WSVN, the train struck a car in the area of Cypress Creek Road and Dixie Highway, pushing the vehicle north into Fort Lauderdale.
The woman driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not released. The accident is under investigation by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
It was the latest in a recent series of collisions involving Brightline trains, and officials continue to caution drivers to be aware of crossing gates, warning lights and safety signs, and not try to beat the train.
Brightline and the sheriff’s office have launched a safety campaign to reduce the number of railroad deaths and say more tickets will be issued to drivers who ignore warnings.
