News: Bicyclist fatally struck by Broward County Transit bus
LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating an accident that killed a bicycle rider last week.
According to a news release, the incident occurred Friday near the 1400 block of South Ocean Boulevard in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
Traffic homicide detectives said a Broward County Transit bus and a bicyclist on a Trek OCLV Carbon road bike were both heading north on South Ocean Boulevard just before 11 a.m.
The bus sideswiped the bicycle, and the rider was thrown from the bike. The bicyclist was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. His name has not yet been released.
The BCT bus driver, 42-year-old David Graham of Pompano Beach, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Detectives do not believe excessive speed was a contributing factor in the accident.
