News: Bicyclist dies after being hit by cargo van in Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said a bicyclist died after being hit by a cargo van in Pompano Beach late Friday night.
The victim was struck near the intersection of Southwest 12th Avenue and Southwest 8th Street at about 11:45 p.m. Traffic homicide detectives said the bicyclist was riding in the southbound right thru lane of Southwest 12th Avenue in the path of a Chevrolet Express van, and was hit by the vehicle.
The bicycle was pushed into the center multi-directional left turn lane. The rider, an adult male whose name was not released, was pronounced dead after being taken to Broward Health North hospital. The driver of the van stayed at the scene.
Investigators do not believe impairment or excessive speed contributed to the incident. They added that the bicycle did not have lights or reflectors.
