News: 5 dead in crash involving wrong-way driver on Palmetto Expressway
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – A crash involving a wrong-way driver in Miami-Dade County over the weekend left five people dead, according to WPLG.
The incident took place early Saturday morning on the Palmetto Expressway near Northwest 57th Avenue.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 30-year-old Maiky Simeon was driving a silver Infiniti east in the expressway’s westbound lanes at about 4:30 a.m. The Infiniti collided with a Honda sedan, killing all five occupants of the Honda. The victims were four women and one man ranging in age from 18 to 25 whose names were not immediately released. The FHP said police received a call about a driver going in the wrong direction moments before the collision.
Simeon was extricated from the Infiniti and flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
An investigation is underway, and anyone with further information about Simeon’s whereabouts before the wreck was asked to contact the FHP.
