News: 3 killed, 1 injured when car plunges into canal in Miami-Dade County
HOMESTEAD, FL – Three people were killed and another was injured when their car crashed into a canal in Homestead early Saturday morning, reports WPLG.
Authorities said the driver had cut off a marked police vehicle at about 3 a.m. and was fleeing from police when the incident occurred. According to investigators, the driver had turned the car’s lights off while trying to evade the officers.
The car ended up going through an embankment and then plunged into the canal in the area of East Palm Drive and Southeast 28th Avenue. Three people were pulled from the car by rescuers and were transported to Jackson South and Homestead Hospital.
The three, all teenagers, were later pronounced dead. Another person found outside of the car was in stable condition.
Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the crash and who was behind the wheel at the time.
