NEWS: New York State Jury Awards a Record $120M Medical Malpractice Verdict
In the biggest medical malpractice verdict in Westchester County history, a New York jury found a local hospital liable for negligent care given to a stroke patient, resulting in catastrophic brain damage.
The jury awarded Lee and his representatives $9.4 million for past and future pain and suffering, $51 million for past and future lost income, with the remainder going to future medical costs and other awards.
On November 30, per Law 360, a Westchester County jury found that Westchester Medical Center was liable for failing to provide timely treatment for a blood clot, suffered by William Lee, age 41. This blood clot caused severe brain damage, necessitating round-the-clock care for the rest of his life.
In their successful argument, Lee’s family alleged that doctors on call at the hospital waited three hours before removing the blood clot from a major artery, which resulted in brain damage.
The case is William R. Lee v. Westchester Medical Center in New York Supreme Court, Westchester County.
